A group photograph of the Theta Chapter of Kappa Sigma Fraternity, late 1880s, probably 1887-1888.

Photo features:

Edward Everett Adams (1st left in back row) attended Cumberland University's Preparatory Department in 1888, and received his Bachelor of Laws in 1899. Adams, a newspaper correspondent for The Lebanon Herald, bought the paper in 1888, and changed the name to The Lebanon Democrat, a paper that is still published three-times a week today.

Laban Lacy Rice, (3rd left in back row) attended Cumberland University and received his B.A. in 1891 , M.A. in 1892, and his Ph.D. in 1894 from the school. He helped establish the Theta Chapter of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity at Cumberland University in 1887. After serving as a Professor of English Language for many years, he would become the 13th University President in 1941. He published over a dozen books throughout his life on literature and astronomy, similar to his brother, fellow Cumberland graduate and famed author Cale Young Rice.
